Those Who Say the Election Will Not Be Allowed Are Speaking Against the People: Tuku
Tangail Correspondent:
BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku has said that those who declare the upcoming elections will not be allowed are, in fact, speaking against the will of the people. “Such statements reflect a fascist mentality and character,” he added.
Speaking as the chief guest at a gift distribution event for journalists at the Tangail Press Club on Wednesday (17 September), Tuku stated:
“The people of Bangladesh have struggled for the past 17 years to resist fascism. The spirit of that movement still lives on, and the people desire a free, fair, and neutral election through which they can choose their preferred candidates. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure such an environment.”
Criticizing the recent DUCSU and JUCSU elections, Tuku further remarked, “We have seen how extremist student organizations have rebranded themselves and engaged in electoral irregularities to serve their own interests.”
Referring to the recent murder in Tangail, Tuku condemned the brutal killing of Lily Akhter, wife of Anisur Rahman Uttam, General Secretary of BNP’s Magra Union unit under Sadar Upazila. He blamed administrative failure for the incident. “Terrorists hacked her to death when they couldn’t find her husband at home. We expect law enforcement to swiftly arrest those responsible,” he said.
Present at the event were Tangail Press Club President Advocate Zafar Ahmed, General Secretary Qazi Zakerul Mawla, former BNP district convener Mahmudul Haque Shanu, District Jubo Dal convener Khandaker Rashedul Hasan, and former Organizing Secretary Shafiqul Rahman Khan Shafik, among others.
