It’s an unwritten rule that maintaining a good physique is essential to
survive in showbiz. But popular Lollywood actress Durefishan Salim has given a thumbs-up to that traditional notion.
In a recent interview, she made it clear that fitness doesn’t mean being artificially thin, but rather being healthy and confident from within.
Durefishan is happy with her natural physique.
She said in an interview with Pakistani media, “I never thought that I had to change myself for the industry. Many people have said a lot about my appearance or figure, but my confidence has never wavered.”
The actress said that the struggle to survive in the industry was not easy. She often had to hear various sarcasms from her colleagues.
Yet, she was honest with herself and did not want to measure herself by the so-called beauty standards. According to her, most women in Pakistan have a body type similar to her, and therefore she wants her characters to reflect real-life women.
She said, “Many people tell me that I don’t look like an actress, but rather like an ordinary woman. When I hear this, I feel like I’m on the right track. Because the audience sees their own reflection on the screen, and that’s the biggest achievement for me.”
Durefisan questions, “We show all kinds of love stories in dramas, but why are actresses cast in a certain mold?” She feels that old stereotypes still exist in the entertainment industry.
