The UN fiasco to establish a free Palestinian state

Md. Zillur Rahaman :

Neither the UN nor any other international organization is able to resolve the Palestinian problem due to the unilateral support and patronage of Israel by the major powers.

Instead of solving problems, new crises are created and many hapless Palestinians and Israelis are joining the death toll. But this time, Israel’s intelligence agencies were taken aback by Hamas’s sudden attack.

The sudden rise of Hamas can be called a colossal military fiasco and political disaster for Israel, because their astonishment is never ending.

The trust and confidence of its citizens in the Israeli military has also been severely fractured, and many Israelis are fleeing the country in fear and that is why, to cover up their own failure, the Zionist occupying power, Israel, has carried out indiscriminate airstrikes on innocent people in Gaza and has caused a storm of condemnation around the world.

For the last 50 years, Israel has been establishing Jewish settlements in these occupied territories. More than six million Jews now live in these areas.

These are illegal settlements under international law and a major obstacle to peace.

However, Israel does not respect any international laws and regulations, because at the beginning of the 20th century, Jews living in Europe were subjected to widespread hatred and persecution.

From there the beginning of ‘Zionism’ or inspired by the Zionist movement, European Jews began to settle in Palestine in droves.

But their migration created discontent among the local Arabs and Muslims. At that time Arabs and Muslims were the majority there.

But the problem is that since the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, many things have changed.

Especially after many wars between Arabs and Israelis, the face of the conflict zones has changed.

Since Israel is in control of the occupied territories, they want to negotiate on that basis.

But Hamas claims that their state will be based on the borders that existed before the 1967 war and the silent struggle over the illegal settlements that Israel continues to build in the West Bank continues.

The Palestinian Authority, which controls the West Bank, and Hamas, which controls Gaza, both want East Jerusalem as the capital of their Palestinian state. But Israel has occupied it since 1967.

Israel’s biggest allies are the United States and Britain. On the initiative of Britain, the Balfour Declaration on November 2, 1917 and later under their patronage, Zionist Israel was born in 1948.

There is a very powerful Israel lobby in the US, in particular, the US capital market, business and media is in the possession of the Jewish circle, and because of this, public opinion is also in favor of Israel.

As a result, it is not only difficult, but also impossible for any president of the United States to withdraw support from the top in Israel.

Not only that these two countries are close military allies. Israel receives most international aid from the United States.

A large part of this aid is spent on the purchase of military weapons for Israel and the suppression and persecution of Palestinian freedom fighters.

Moreover, Russia, China and France have good commercial, economic and military relations with Israel.

However, Israel’s diplomatic relations with Russia and China have been strained over the recent war in Ukraine, and both countries are calling for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state in the wake of Hamas’ sudden attacks on October 7.

Many analysts say, it is actually a fluff, the reality is completely different. In short, there is not a single major power to openly support Palestine.

The Palestinian group Hamas was once in contact with Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood.

But after Egypt’s army overthrew Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, Hamas lost its support.

The main sponsors of Hamas are now the Hezbollah group in Syria, Iran and Lebanon.

Many other countries in the world sympathize with Palestine. But this sympathy is only on paper, it turns out to be very little in reality.

The current turmoil in the Middle East is due to the monopoly of the UN Security Council and its direct support for Israel.

When other UN member states take a resolution in favor of Palestine, it is vulnerable to the opposition or veto power of the five permanent members.

That is why the UN is called by many as paper tiger because many functions, goals and objectives of the UN are helpless and limited by the veto power of the five permanent members or five ghosts.

The UN cannot take any effective decision and implement it outside the interests of the five permanent members. Every permanent member has nuclear power and organizes many things in the world willy-nilly.

The diplomacy and politics of the world revolve at their finger tips. The UN is mainly funded by the major powers and the donor countries play an important role in decision-making.

That is why the UN is most of the time hostage to the big five permanent members in establishing world peace.

Many Muslim countries that recently had hostile relations with Israel, have now normalized relations with Israel.

Hamas says such ties are a major obstacle to the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, and its main demand is for Israel to cede territory illegally occupied in the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.

Many analysts think that the single support of Israel by the superpower countries has largely sustained this crisis and the opposition of the superpowers has not made it possible to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, the main failure of the UN lies here.
