Filmmaker Rubaiyat Hossain has been working on the film The Difficult Bride for a long time.
She has taken the screenplay to various film festivals and secured international funding. The film has received grants from five countries.
Finally, the cast has been announced. National Film Award-winning actresses Azmeri Haque Badhan, Reekita Nondine Shimu, and Sunerah Binte Kamal will star in The Difficult Bride.
Joining them is Zainin Karim Chowdhury, according to what the director told the media outlet Variety.
The story follows a young woman who dreams of a fairytale wedding. But deep inside, she suffers from a complicated illness.
She tries various home remedies to solve the problem, but when nothing works, her mental stress increases.
One day at a beauty salon, she begins to imagine a mysterious long-haired woman.
The shooting of the film has already been completed. Speaking about the cast, Rubaiyat Hossain said, “Every actor has given their all.
They have delivered their best. I am grateful for their trust, generosity, impeccable artistry, and strong determination.”
The director shared that she has been working on the story for nearly two decades.
In 2006, she first considered making The Difficult Bride as a short film, but later decided to develop it as a feature-length production.
Rubaiyat Hossain added, “I have carried this story in my mind for 21 years and rewritten it many times.
It has been part of half of my life. Finally, with an amazing team, I’ve been able to make this film. It feels like a miracle to me.”
Portuguese filmmaker Leonor Teles is the cinematographer for The Difficult Bride. Several other international crew members have also worked in various departments.
The film is co-produced by France’s François d’Artemare, Germany’s Anna Kaczko, Portugal’s Pedro Borges, and Norway’s Ingard Lill Houghton alongside Rubaiyat Hossain.
