Commentary: The anarchic mob rule is becoming inevitable by the arrest of leaders
Editorial Desk :
After a period of lull, the political scenarios have turned violent, centering the opposition BNP’s Dhaka’s October 28 rally where hundreds and thousands of people gathered peacefully.
The newspapers found that it was the government which used violence to foil the movement for resignation of the government of rigged election.
The mechanism of election rigging was used by the same government to win the preceding two elections.
The Election Commission was a façade to hide election rigging by the government servants under the supervision of the prime minister.
A large amount of money was used to buy up the political parties who cooperated with the government.
Even the seats of the parliament were distributed before the election was held. The blueprint for election rigging was followed defiantly.
Now all the major political parties have jointly started the movement not to allow the government to rig the election third time.
The struggle is now between the people’s right to vote in a free and fair election and the government’s insistence on a rigged election with the help of government servants.
In other words, the government itself is admitting that it has no public support at all.
Thus the issue is not BNP or any other political party, but it is about the people versus the government.
The issue is about establishing the people’s voting right and the government’s denial of that right.
The people are behind the opposition political parties for their right to vote.
This is an audacious claim of the government that its rigged election by the public servants has to be accepted as election victory for the government for continuing in power.
Thus the election riggers will decide election victory and not the people.
So the demand of resignation of the government of rigged election has to be the precondition for saving the election to be the people’s election.
By the use of violence the government wants to stay in power defying the people.
The government wants to deprive the entire nation of their legal and constitutional right to choose their own government.
However, all the newspapers blamed the government for resorting to violence on 28th October to foil the all party programme of demonstrating massive public protest against the government.
