The 63rd sugarcane threshing season of the country’s largest Joypurhat sugar mill begins with a loss of Tk 58 crore

The 63rd sugarcane threshing season has begun with the dumping of sugarcane into the Joypurhat sugar mill’s boats. The country’s largest sugar producing company has started the 2025-26 sugarcane threshing season with the burden of last year’s loss of Tk 58 crore.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Maksura Noor inaugurated the sugarcane threshing and sugar production activities on Friday afternoon.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries MA Kamal Billah, Managing Director of Joypurhat Sugar Mills, Agronomist Mohammad Khabir Uddin Molya, Deputy Director of Joypurhat Local Government Uttam Kumar Roy, District Jamaat Ameer Fazlur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Anisur Rahman, and Executive President of Bangladesh Sugar Industry Corporation Workers’ and Employees’ Federation Ali Akhtar spoke at the rally organized on this occasion at the Joypurhat Sugar Mill premises.
This time, sugarcane has been cultivated on 3,020 acres of land in the current 2025-26 season. The sugar mill authorities have set a target of producing 2,970 metric tons of sugar from 55,000 metric tons of sugarcane on these lands. Joypurhat Sugar Mill Managing Director, agronomist Mohammad Khabir Uddin Molya said that the price of sugarcane has been increased this time compared to last time. This time the price of sugarcane is Tk 625 per quintal at the mill gate.
Sugarcane will be purchased from outside centers at a price of Tk 615. In addition, this time, the sugar mill authorities have taken the initiative to pay the sugarcane price to sugarcane farmers through bKash accounts.
