Following the tragic and untimely passing of the Founder and former Managing Director, Mr. Abdullah hil Rakib, Mrs. Afroza Shahin has been appointed as the new Managing Director of TEAM Group.
On 8 June, Abdullah Hil Rakib and his close friend, Captain Md Saifuzzaman Guddu, a senior pilot at Biman Bangladesh Airlines, passed away in a boating accident in Canada.
The Board of Directors made the announcement on Sunday as the organisation continues to mourn the loss of Rakib. In their statement, the organization describes Rakib as a visionary leader. His unwavering commitment and dedication to excellence and social development played a pivotal role in the vision, growth and success of TEAM Group. His leadership will remain a guiding force in the company’s journey ahead.
Being by her husband’s side, Afroza Shahin has been closely involved in the leadership and strategic direction of TEAM Group for years. Her deep understanding of the organisation’s values, strong sense of responsibility, and resilient spirit have prepared her to lead the group during this transitional period.
In the same statement, TEAM Group has outlined that, “Afroza Shahin’s strength, dedication, and alignment with the company’s vision will help propel the organisation to new heights.”
The Board has called upon all stakeholders to work together in cooperation under her leadership to continue the company’s progress.
Afroza Shahin is a MBBS graduate from Sir Salimullah Medical College (2001) and later underwent postgraduate training at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Her early education consists of studying at Motijheel Ideal School and College. This was followed by the completion of her Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from Mymensingh Girls’ Cadet College in 1991 and 1993, respectively.
Afroza married Abdullah Hil Rakib in 1999 and has been by his side since the conception of TEAM. Since the birth of TEAM Group, she has served as a Board Director and has also been the Managing Director of the group’s lifestyle fashion brand, Twelve Clothing.
At a recent board meeting, the couple’s children—Mahir Daiyan and Lamia Tabassum—were also formalized as board members.
Mahir Daiyan is currently pursuing his studies at Seneca Polytechnic College while Lamia Tabassum is currently pursuing her undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto.
