Satkhira Corrspondent :

The condition of the Patakhali Secondary School building in Padmapukur union of Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira is poor condition.

There is a risk of the building collapse at any time and may cause an accident. However, teaching is going on in that building every day with risk.

After investigating, it was learned that this school was established in 1954 and currently has more than five hundred students studying.

The three-storey building of the school was built in the last 1998-99 financial year. But the building was severely damaged by several natural disasters including cyclones Aila, Bulbul, Amphan and coastal salinity.

During the disaster, the building was also used as a cyclone shelter, which further aggravated the dilapidated condition.

It was seen on the spot that the pillars and walls of the ground floor of the building have severe cracks. Plaster is falling off from various parts of the stairs and roof.

Due to the risk of concrete collapsing from cracks, pillars have been tied with ropes in some places. Even in this situation, classes are going on in the school.

The school’s headmaster, Abu Bakkar Siddique, said that the matter has been reported to various departments for a long time. But no renovation work or initiative to construct a new building has been taken yet. If urgent measures are not taken, the risk level will become dire.
