Teachers’ syndicate behind Feni Govt College

Feni Correspondent :

A powerful syndicate was formed in Feni Government College during the fascist period, consisting of some teachers.

They controlled the entire college by cooperating with the principal who was working for the last 15 years in all his misdeeds.

The principals working during the fascist regime allegedly resorted to extreme irregularities and unlimited corruption in the expenditure of various private funds collected from the students of the college.

In this work, they were fully supported by some unethical teachers of the syndicate working in the college.

In order to keep the trend of embezzlement and financial irregularities undisputed and unhindered, in consultation with the syndicate teachers, the practice of giving various gifts to the teachers and employees from various funds of the college was also introduced to keep all the teachers and employees of the college happy, which is completely illegal.

On the 1st of Baishakh, the Bengali New Year, a system was introduced to give expensive Punjabis to all male teachers, Baisakhi sarees to female teachers, shirts, fatuas, etc. to employees.

In addition, a strange custom of giving umbrellas to teachers and employees was also practiced in this college at the beginning of the monsoon.

Every year, a large subsidy is provided from the college fund for organizing annual outings of teachers with their families, but the entire cost of the annual outings of teachers is met from the personal contributions paid by the teachers and from the funds of the Teachers’ Council, but there is an unusual custom in this college of distributing the money collected by the Teachers’ Council among the teachers at the end of the year through attractive gift vouchers.

As per the government’s instructions, a rule was introduced to give a considerable amount of honorarium to all the teachers who serve on the committees formed by teachers to organize various national day celebrations and to the teachers responsible for implementing various co-curricular activities.

As a result of giving large honorariums, the expenses are shown through fake bill vouchers at least four to five times higher than the actual expenses.

These financial irregularities and mismanagement had become the norm at Feni College for a long time.

Information obtained from reliable sources shows that during the time of the previous principals, in collusion with the aforementioned dishonest benefit-seeking teachers, a lot of money was embezzled through fake bill vouchers by showing many times the actual cost of celebrating various national days directed by the government.

During the time of the current principal, only 48154/- was spent on celebrating the great International Mother Language Day 2025 on February 21st.

However, in 2023 and 2024, 220304/- (two lakh twenty thousand three hundred and four taka only) and 138428/- (one lakh thirty eight thousand four hundred and twenty eight taka only), which is much more than the actual cost.

The current principal spent 41820/- and 48154/- respectively on the celebration of Feni Liberation Day on December 6 and Intellectuals Day on December 14 ‘2024’, while the previous principal spent 125811/- and 114855/- respectively on organizing these two events the previous year. The amount of expenditure on each such national day was unusual.

Although there was no instruction to organize a separate event in any college in the country on the day of the inauguration of the Padma Bridge in 2022, Feni College embezzled the entire money by issuing fake bill vouchers showing an expenditure of 323440 taka on the occasion of the inauguration of the Padma Bridge.

In this regard, after talking to some teachers working at that time, no truth was found to the effect that any such event took place.

The current principal has spent 4,39,000 taka to complete the college’s annual literary and cultural competition 2025 program, whereas before the current principal joined, 884020/- and 690983/- taka were spent in the last two years in the last 2023-24 and 2022-23 financial years respectively. Not only these two financial years but also the previous years have shown almost the same expenditure.

Last year, i.e. in the previous year of 1431 Banga, about 9,00,000 taka was spent from the two funds of the college in the continuation of the previous years to celebrate the Bengali New Year on Pohela Baishakh. This year, only 1,38,000 taka was spent to complete the said program during the current principal’s time.

Unlimited corruption has been resorted to in the purchase of official materials and stationery of Feni College such as paper, pens, file papers, stapler machines, alpins and computer toners etc. In the name of purchasing these materials, fake bill vouchers worth lakhs of taka have been made from the college fund every year.
