Staff Reporter, Sirajganj :
Sirajganj district unit of Bangladesh Primary Assistant Teachers Society morning formed a human chain in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office in the town on Saturday demanding implementation of its 10th grade.
The programme was presided over by Ashis Kumar, President of Bangladesh Primary Assistant Teachers Society, Sirajganj district unit, while District Teacher Society’s Coordinator Shahin Reza, President of Sadar upazila unit Aminul Islam, General Secretary Masud Rabbi, Coordinator Sohel Rana, Shahiduzzaman Polash, Nukul Kumar Shah, Mokhlesur Rahman, Mostafizur Rahman, Umme Habiba and Sumaiya Islam among others spoke on the occasion.
Speakers at the human chain said, “Implementation of 10th grade for the primary schools’ assistant teachers is a logical demand. The Ministry for Primary and Mass-education recently proposed to extend the grade to 13th from 12th, which seems like a farce with the teachers. This is why we are boldly refusing the proposal.”
“The qualification required for recruitment to the post of Assistant Teacher in Government Primary School is equivalent to graduation, but the salary grade has been determined as 13th, which is ridiculous,” they said.
Criticizing the current state over the price hike of essentials, the demonstrators said, we can’t maintain our living standard compared to other countries due to the unbridled price hike of all essential commodities. Our children suffer all the time for our poverty even after we are serving as teachers that are termed as an important pillar of the society. In this circumstance, the teachers demand implementation of 10th grade in which they can live with respect in the society.
