Teachers and employees of MPO-listed educational institutions have postponed their planned “March to Jamuna”, declaring that they will launch a hunger strike from 2pm on Friday if their demands remain unmet.

The announcement came from Principal Delwar Hossain Azizi, Member Secretary of the Alliance for Nationalisation of MPO-listed Education, at a press briefing held at the Central Shaheed Minar on Thursday evening.

Azizi said, “Several political leaders who have been in contact with us advised against the march, warning that it might lead to disorder and be exploited by opportunistic groups. Respecting their advice, we have decided to suspend the march for now.”

Outlining the next phase of their protest, he added, “Alongside our ongoing sit-in, we will begin a hunger strike from 2pm tomorrow. If the government still fails to respond, we will escalate to an indefinite hunger strike.”

He further stated, “As Friday and Saturday are holidays, educational institutions will remain closed. From Sunday, we will begin continuous work abstention-no classes or examinations will be held until our demands are fulfilled.”

The teachers have been protesting for a three-point demand: a 20% house rent allowance (minimum Tk3,000), a Tk1,500 medical allowance, and a 75% festival bonus for all MPO-listed teachers and staff.
