Adele held the record for almost a decade. Adele’s album ‘Twenty Five’ set the record for the highest-selling album in its first week.
‘Twenty Five,’ released in November 2015, sold more than 17 million copies
that year. More than 3.4 million copies were sold in its first week.
Many artistes have come close to this record in the last 10 years, but they have not been able to surpass Adele.
Taylor Swift finally broke Adele’s record. Swift’s 12th album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ was released on October 3.
Music magazine Billboard reported that it took Taylor Swift less than a week to break Adele’s record.
In just five days, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ album sold more than 3.5 million copies, both physically and streaming. There are two more days left to complete a week.
As the hype around the album grows, the number will increase further. Swift’s previous album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, released in 2024, sold 2.5 million copies in a week.
However, not only praise, but also mixed reactions have come from critics about ‘The Life of a Showgirl’. Taylor Swift also spoke about criticism.
She said, “I welcome any kind of discussion. I have respect for those who make any kind of constructive criticism about the industry.”
Taylor Swift also said, “I’ve heard a lot of fans say they didn’t like my ‘Reputation’ album at the time. But now it’s their favourite album.
Or they used to listen to ‘Fairless’ more, but now they like ‘Evermore’ more. I pay attention to these things when I’m making songs. I know what I’ve made.”
