Tax-free income limit for July warriors likely to be Tk 525,000
Business Report :
The government is set to introduce a new category called “July Warriors” under the personal income tax regime, offering tax exemption on annual income up to Tk 525,000 for a period of two years starting from the 2026-27 fiscal year.
War-wounded freedom fighters are also expected to see their tax-free income threshold raised to Tk 525,000 from FY27, up from the current Tk 500,000.
Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed is scheduled to unveil the national budget on June 2, outlining measures for the 2025-27 fiscal years beginning this July.
The new tax benefit will apply specifically to gazetted July Warriors. In February, the interim government officially recognized 1,401 individuals as July Warriors for their role in the student-led uprising during July-August last year, which led to the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government.
Meanwhile, the tax-free income limit for individual taxpayers is expected to remain unchanged at Tk 350,000 for the upcoming fiscal year. However, proposals suggest raising this threshold from FY27 and keeping it steady for two years under the forthcoming tax structure set to launch next fiscal year.
Tax exemption thresholds for women and other special categories of taxpayers are also projected to rise from FY27.
