Dr Tasnim Jara, senior joint member secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has collected a nomination form to contest the upcoming national election from Dhaka-9.
The development was confirmed early Tuesday in a Facebook post by the party’s northern region chief organiser, Sarjis Alam, who wrote: “Dr Tasnim Jara, Dhaka-9 (Khilgaon, Mugda, Manda, Sabujbagh).”
The BNP has yet to field a candidate for this constituency, while Jamaat-e-Islami has nominated Kabir Ahmad.
Tasnim obtained her nomination form from the party’s temporary central office in Banglamotor, Dhaka, around 10pm on Monday. During the occasion, party leaders and activists were seen chanting slogans and carrying the party’s electoral symbol, Shapla Koli (water lily bud).
Speaking about her candidacy, Tasnim said, “The party has instructed me to submit the form by the 13th. I have now formally joined the process. If given the opportunity, I hope we can bring about change through the NCP.”
Dhaka-9 comprises Wards 1-7 and 71-75 under the Dhaka South City Corporation, covering the Sabujbagh, Khilgaon, Mugda and Manda police station areas.
