BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has reiterated his party’s commitment to transforming Bangladesh into a democratic welfare state, should it regain power in the upcoming national elections.
Speaking during a virtual meeting with BNP’s allied political parties on Friday, Tarique described the July mass uprising-led by students, workers, and the public-as the decisive overthrow of fascism after a prolonged struggle. He emphasised that unity among opposition forces is now vital for the country’s progress.

Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka.
The two-hour meeting reviewed the current political landscape and featured senior BNP figures including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Nazrul Islam Khan and Selima Rahman, and Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo.
Leaders from the party’s alliances also took part. Among them were Mostafa Jamal Haider, Coordinator of the 12-party Alliance; Fariduzzaman Farhad, Coordinator of the Jatiyatabadi Somomona Jote; Redwan Ahmed, Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP); and Mostafizur Rahman Iran, Chairman of the Labour Party.
Other prominent attendees included Shahadat Hossain Selim (LDP), Syed Ehsanul Huda (Jatiya Dal), Professor Nurul Amin Bepari (Bikalpadhara Bangladesh), Advocate MA Rakib (Islami Oikya Jote), Khandaker Lutfur Rahman (JAGPA), and Mufti Golam Mohiuddin Ikram (Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam).
The 12-party alliance consists of factions including the Jatiya Party (Kazi Jafar faction), segments of the LDP and Labour Party, BNP, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, parts of JAGPA, Kalyan Party, Islami Oikya Jote, Islamic Party, Naya Ganatantrik Party, and Pragatishil Jatiyatabadi Dal.
Meanwhile, the Jatiyatabadi Somomona Jote coalition includes the National People’s Party (NPP), segments of JAGPA, Democratic League, Bangladesh NAP, Bikalpadhara, Samyabadi Dal, Gano Dal, NAP-Bhasani, Islami Oikya Jote, People’s League, and the Bangladesh Minority Janata Party.
