BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to return to Bangladesh in November this year, according to the party’s Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed.
Speaking to reporters at his Gulshan residence on Friday, Salahuddin said the BNP will finalize and approve candidates for at least 200 constituencies within this month, ahead of the national elections scheduled for February next year.
On the issue of electoral alliances, he mentioned that discussions are ongoing to form a broader coalition. “We are in political communication with the National Citizen Party, but it has not yet been decided whether a formal alliance will be established,” he noted.
Salahuddin further said that the chief adviser has been requested to ensure the caretaker government remains neutral during the election period.
He also criticized a clause in the amended Representation of the People Order (RPO) that requires candidates of alliance partners to contest under their respective party symbols.
“This provision may discourage smaller parties from joining alliances,” he warned.
