A court has ordered the seizure of land and buildings worth approximately Tk 15 crore belonging to Tarique Ahmed Siddique, former defence adviser to ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and his brother Shafique Ahmed Siddique.

Dhaka’s Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Wednesday. On behalf of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Deputy Director Md Monirul Islam submitted the petition for the seizure.

The seized assets include 17 decimals of land (excluding the already sold portion) out of a total of 33.50 decimals owned by Shafique Ahmed Siddique in Gazipur, and half of a ten-storey building built on 19.50 decimals of land owned by Tarique Ahmed Siddique, which is situated on a total of 67 decimals of land.

In its petition, the ACC mentioned that an investigation is ongoing against them for allegedly acquiring assets beyond known sources of income. The investigation has revealed that they are attempting to transfer, shift, or dispose of the aforementioned immovable properties. If these assets are transferred before the investigation is completed, it may disrupt the process.

Therefore, in the interest of a proper investigation, it is necessary to order the seizure of these assets and appoint a receiver until the inquiry is resolved.
