NN ONLINE:

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has asserted that Bangladesh must receive its rightful share of water from India. He also stressed that he hopes there won’t be another Felani at the border.

The remarks came during an in-depth interview with BBC Bangla. The news outlet released the second part of the interview on Tuesday morning across its website, Facebook page, and YouTube channel.

When asked how Bangladesh’s relationship with India should be managed, Tarique Rahman said, “Of course, I want my share of the water. Of course, I do not want to see another Felani hanging. Of course, we will not accept this.”

On whether BNP would continue to speak out for Bangladesh’s interests regarding water sharing and border killings, Tarique explained, “I gave you two examples to illustrate our stance. We want our share of the water—that is, my country’s share, the people’s share. I want accountability. The reference to the Felani killing was to show that if harm comes to my people, I will never accept it.”

Regarding Sheikh Hasina’s shelter in India and how ties with India would look if BNP comes to power, the BNP leader stated, “If they provide refuge to a dictator there and make the Bangladeshi people resentful, then there is little we can do about it. The people of Bangladesh have decided that their relationship with them will remain distant. So, I must stand with the people of my country.”
