Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) acting chairman Tarique Rahman, along with seven others, has been acquitted in a case involving allegations of bribery related to the murder case of businessman Sabbir, a director of the Bashundhara Group.
The special judge court-3 in Dhaka delivered the verdict on Thursday morning.
The case involved allegations that Tarique Rahman and others had accepted a bribe of 21 crore Bangladeshi Taka to ensure the release of Safiat Sobhan Sanvir, the accused in the murder of Sabbir.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had filed the case accusing the defendants of corruption.
According to BNP’s lawyer, Borhan Uddin, the ACC failed to present any credible evidence or witnesses to support the charges against the defendants.
With the court’s ruling, Tarique Rahman now faces no legal obstacles, and there is no longer any case pending against him in the judicial court.
This decision clears the way for Tarique Rahman to return to Bangladesh and resume his political activities, as confirmed by BNP’s legal team.
