A schoolgirl was killed after being run over by a bus in Nagarpur upazila of Tangail on Thursday morning. The incident occurred in the Khanpara area of Pakutia union.
The deceased was identified as Nowrin Akter, 15, daughter of Sohel Mia from Panchtarail village in Pakutia union. She was a tenth-grade student of Pakutia Brindaban Radha Gobinda High School.
According to police and eyewitnesses, an SB Link Paribahan bus coming from Dhaka and heading towards Nagarpur hit Nowrin while she was on the roadside, killing her on the spot.
Enraged locals vandalized the bus and later set it on fire. Fire service personnel rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control.
Nagarpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam confirmed the incident, saying the driver of the bus has been detained. “Legal procedures are underway, and the body will be handed over to the family following due process,” he added.
