In the fourth phase of the 6th Upazila Parishad elections, voting took place in 144 polling stations in Tangail’s Mirzapur Upazila today (June 5).
Eight candidates are contesting for the post of chairman, 2 for vice chairman male and 3 for the post of vice chairman reserved female seat.
Besides, voting will be held in three upazilas of Tangail, Basail and Sakhipur on the same day.
Today Tuesday (June 4) under the direction of the Returning Officer, the Upazila Assistant Returning Officer and Election Officers sent the election material from the Upazila Parishad auditorium to various polling stations under tight security. 8 candidates are contesting for the post of chairman, 2 for male vice chairman and 3 for female vice chairman.
President and former leader of BNP Feroz Haider Khan is contesting the election with the (motorcycle) symbol. The current vice chairman and joint convener of the Upazila Jubo League is Azaharul Islam Azahar (lock key) and Md. Shaukat Mia (Tubewell) is competing with the symbol.
Women’s Awami League leader and current women’s vice chairman and acting chairman of Upazila Parishad Mirza Shamima Akter Shifa (Football), District Women’s Awami League’s cultural affairs secretary Chand Sultana (Hans), Central Women’s Awami League Vice President and Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Film Artists Association D Tayeb’s wife Mahbooba Shahreen (Kalsi) is contesting for the symbol. In the fourth phase of the 6th Upazila Parishad elections in Mirzapur municipality and 14 unions, the total number of voters in Mirzapur upazila is 3 lakh 62 thousand 851 people. There are 144 polling stations.
