Arav Khan imprisoned for 10 years in Arms case

A Dhaka tribunal yesterday sentenced Rabiul Islam alias Arav Khan to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in an Arms case.
Judge Murshid Ahmed of the Special Tribunal-14 of Dhaka delivered the verdict in the morning on Tuesday in absence of the convict.
The court also fined Arav Khan Tk 10,000, in default, he will have to serve three more months in the prison.
Earlier on May 7, the court fixed May 9 for delivering the verdict in the Arms case filed against gold trader Arav Khan now based in Dubai.
Out of 20 witnesses 10 testified in the case. Arav, a fugitive accused in the murder case of a Police Inspector Mamun, was arrested in Maghbazar area on January 28, 2015 in front of his father-in-law’ house, with a loaded revolver as he allegedly went there to threaten his father-in-law Sekendar Ali to extort money from him.
Inspector Mamun was killed in Banani area on July 7, 2018. Later, on July 10, the charred body of Mamun was recovered from a forest in Rayerdia area of Kaligang Upazia under Gazipur district.
Police later filed the case against Arav Khan with the capital’s Ramna Model Police Station. Investigation Officer and Detective Branch (DB) of police Sub-Inspector Sheikh Hasan Muhammad Mostafa Sarwar on March 1, 2015, submitted the charge against him. On May 10 of that year, the court framed charges against Arav, but he managed to come out of jail securing bail on March 14, 2018, in the case. The court on October 24, 2018, issued arrest warrant against Arav. At present, he is facing an Interpol-red alert.
