Raihan Rafi’s ‘Taandob’, which was released on Eid, is a hit across the country.
While everyone is praising the movie starring Shakib Khan and demanding an extension of the show, at that time, a screening was closed in an auditorium in Tangail.
On the occasion of Eid, a screening of the movie ‘Taandob’ was organised at Auliabad Auditorium in Kalihati Upazila of Tangail.
This exhibition was arranged by Kamruzzaman Saiful, Head of Marketing at Jazz Multimedia, for a daily rental fee of Tk10,000 from the Tangail Zila Parishad. He paid five days’ rent in advance.
Saiful told this correspondent that on the Friday before Eid, local mosques and madrasas announced over the microphones that the screening of the movie ‘Taandob’ should be stopped.
That afternoon, the posters and banners were torn down. Then, a protest march was held under the banner of the Parki Ulama Parishad against the screening of the movie, which created panic among the local audience.
Saiful decided to continue the exhibition, ignoring all this. The evening show on Eid was held with only 20 to 25 people in attendance. But last Tuesday, he had to close the show due to protests.
The issue has sparked criticism on social media. Saiful told the media, “Permission was obtained from everywhere to screen the film.
The Certification Board had a universal rated certificate. Yet the movie is being banned from showing. I have asked for forgiveness with folded hands and have asked for time until Thursday. The religious community is adamant about this.”
Those involved in the film industry have expressed anger over this incident.
Director Ashfaq Nipun wrote on social media late Tuesday night, “The screening of the movie ‘Taandob’ in Kalihati, Tangail, has been stopped due to threats from the Towhidi mob.
The tourist spots in Sylhet are closed. And Chief Adviser, ‘Are you still behind on the Chittagong Port?’ Just like the announcement of facing any resistance regarding the port, when will you announce such strict resistance regarding mob control?”
Ashfaque Nipun also wrote, “Immediately arrange for a ‘Taandob’ screening in Kalihati. Take measures to make any tourist centre, and public place risk-free. First of all, stop the mob’s rampage.”
