Pakistan recorded an easy 10-wicket victory over India in their first Group-2 match of the ICC T20 World Cup at Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday.
Sent to bat first, India made 151 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
In reply, Pakistan overhauled the winning target making 152 for the loss of none when they had 13 balls to spare.
Opener Mohammad Rizwan remained unbeaten with 79, while Babar Azam remained unbeaten with 68. Rizwan hit three sixes and six fours in his 55-ball innings. Babar Azam struck six fours and two sixes in his 52-ball knock.
India made a disastrous start as they lost their damage adding together 53 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Pant was caught & bowled by Shadab Khan when India’s score was 84 for the loss of four wickets.
Rishabh Pant hit a marvelous 39. His 30-ball innings saw two sixes and two fours.
Virat Kohli played a captain’s knock of 57. He hit five fours and a sixer in his 49-ball innings.
After Pant’s dismissal, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja made a notable partnership. They put on together 41 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Jadeja (13) was caught at the deep mid-wicket by substitute Mohammad Newaz off Hasan Ali when India’s score was 125 for the loss of five wickets.
After Jadeja’s departure, Virat Kohli could stay at the crease for a short period as he was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan off Shaheen Shah Afridi when India’s total was 133 for the loss of six wickets.
Fifth-down Hardik Pandya (11) was caught by Babar Azam off Haris Rauf when India’s score was 146 for the loss of seven wickets.
Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi grabbed three wickets at the cost of 31 runs, while Hasan Ali bagged two wickets in the space of 44 runs.
Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf took one wicket each for 22 and 25 runs respectively.
