Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain has announced the dismantling of the airline ticket syndicate for Umrah, which will prevent group ticket bookings through syndicates and eliminate the practice of inflated prices.

Dr. Hossain made these comments while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the District Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center in Cox’s Bazar on Friday, 21 March.

The adviser stated that tickets must now be booked using the passport number of the respective traveller. If the ticket is not issued within three days, the booking will be automatically cancelled.

“Booking group tickets and then inflating prices two or three times will no longer be possible. A policy has also been formulated to prevent this,” he added.

Dr. Khalid also stressed that there is no communal disorder or misunderstanding in Cox’s Bazar and expressed hope that the mosque would spread the message of brotherhood throughout the region.

The model mosque has the capacity to accommodate 1,100 male worshippers at a time. Separate ablution and prayer facilities have been arranged for women and individuals with physical or visual disabilities.

Additionally, the mosque is equipped with parking facilities, funeral washing arrangements, a conference room, an auditorium, a Quran learning centre, an Islamic Foundation office, a library, and Imam training programmes, making it a well-rounded religious and cultural institution.

The event was presided over by District Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin, with Shahidul Alam, Project Director of the Model Mosque Project, and various government and non-government officials in attendance.
