Sheikh Arif Bulbon :
Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association, actor Symon Sadik resigned from his position on January 20. He submitted his
resignation letter to the Film Artistes’ Association and the President of the Association,
Ilias Kanchan, has accepted the
resignation through an official
letter.
Regarding his resignation, actor Symon Sadik told this correspondent, “This decision has been taken seven to eight months ago. I am not in the Film Artistes’ Association since the decision was made to import foreign films in this country. For the last six to seven months I did not go to the Association office.”
He also said, “When the agreement was first discussed, my statement was that we had protested against this decision in 2017. Now why should we go for it? My only profession is acting. I have to give this culture to the country. Let them come and obey the rules. Now that our cinema is under threat and so, I do not agree on this. Our artistes have been selected in our polls. With a lot of love and a lot of respect, what have we been able to do in that place? Not being able to stay with them, I did not go to the Association much in the last seven to eight months, did not participate in any activities. What I can’t do is quietly come and go. But by releasing a foreign movie along with a promising movie of mine, I think – my career has suffered a lot,” he said and adding, “Some people like and love me in this country. My movie ‘Shesh Bazi’ was a very good movie. In fact, when the number of cinema hall decreases a lot, a movie suffers a lot. This is my loss. Since I am in the event, the event did not stand by me and did not comment on this matter. That’s why I thought I don’t see any need to stay here.”
“I was present in that meeting when the decision was taken regarding foreign films and I told everyone that I was not there even in 2017. And physically and mentally I am not yet and never will be in this decision. That’s why I boldly gave the letter. I want to love my country and I want to live with the culture and people of my country. Cinematographers and those who are related to films have all made me operatic about this. They say, it is timely decision and should have been taken long ago,” he added.
Meanwhile, Symon Sadik confirmed at this time, this decision is not an issue centered on the upcoming election of the Film Artists’ Association. It is absolutely his personal decision. It has nothing to do with elections.
