Sylhet Zilla Parishad provides financial assistance to July martyrs families

Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi said, the respect of revolutionaries and non-revolutionaries can never be the same. Killing one’s own children cannot be the work of any state or government. Using bullets bought with people’s tax money against them is against human rights.

He said, the martyrs of the July uprising are the best children of Bangladesh in recent times. When the people of the country were looking at the sky after giving up after a long century and a half of oppression and misrule. At that very moment, the proud children of the motherland sacrificed their lives and freed the country from misrule. Their martyrdom created new history in the world. Everyone should come forward to fulfill the dreams of the martyrs by building a Bangladesh without discrimination.

He made the above remarks in his speech as the chief guest at a programme organized by Sylhet Zilla Parishad on Monday afternoon to provide financial assistance to the families of the martyrs of the July-August uprising of students and the public from its own funds.

He also said that the job of the state is to establish the just rights and ensure the welfare of the people. All government officials and employees must ensure this out of conscience. The state must block all avenues for becoming fascist. The state must form the Bangladesh of the dreams of the July martyrs by eliminating discrimination in all aspects of the state and society.

Additional Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet and Zilla Parishad Sylhet Administrator Debojit Singh presided over the function at the Parishad auditorium,
Sylhet Additional District Commissioner Anwar-uz-Zaman, Sylhet Regional Information Office Deputy Chief Information Officer Md. Mominul Haque, former president of Sylhet Press Club and editor of Daily Jalalabad Muktabis-un-Noor, and Sylhet Press Club President Ikramul Kabir also spoke as special guest.

At the beginning of the function, conducted by District Council Executive Officer Anupama, Maulana Shah Alam, the presiding Imam of Court Mosque, recited the Holy Quran. Tinni Roy recited the Gita.

The welcome speech was delivered by Sylhet Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Sandwip Kumar Singh.

Abul Ahsan Md. Azraf (Jabur), elder brother of martyred journalist ATM Turab, Piplu Ahmed, elder brother of martyred Pabel Ahmed Kamrul of Dhaka South, and father of Siam Ahmed Rahim of Gowainghat Expressing their feelings in the Programme.

In his speech as a special guest, Anwar-uz-Zaman said that if discrimination cannot be removed from the society, the martyrs will suffer. Therefore, we have to work to establish a society and state without discrimination.

Muktabis-un-Nur said that the price of the martyred family will not be paid with money. This is just an initiative to stand by them. It is not enough to blame only one party for establishing the fascist regime, our mentality and social system are also responsible for this. The people of Sylhet will be happy if an initiative is taken to name a government institution after martyred journalist Turab of Sylhet.

In his speech as the president, Zilla Parishad Administrator Debojit Singh said that the martyrs of the July Movement are the proud children of the nation. It is not to repay the value of their lives in any way. We are just an initiative to stand by the martyred family members from our own funds. Everyone should keep an eye on the fact that no non-martyr is added to the list of martyrs of the July Movement.

At the event, financial assistance checks were handed over to the families of 12 of the 14 martyred students and public figures of the district.
