Sylhet Kidney Foundation Hospital to play a leading role: Dr. Yunus

Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said, “I hope that Sylhet Kidney Foundation Hospital will continue to serve kidney patients. It will become a reliable institution, especially for the underprivileged and helpless patients. They are working at the field level to provide affordable and international standard medical services and prevent and cure diseases. This will be a milestone in the medical system of Bangladesh.”
The Chief Advisor further said, Kidney Foundation Hospital, Sylhet has been providing medical services to kidney patients at a 50 percent discount in a rented building since 2018. I have personal acquaintances with everyone involved in this institution. I express my gratitude to all of them. It is already widely appreciated by the people of Sylhet as a reliable institution.
He said these while participating virtually as the chief guest in the inauguration ceremony of Kidney Foundation Hospital, Sylhet. The official inauguration of the building of Kidney Foundation Hospital, Sylhet, located at Nazirer Gawn on Badaghat Road, Temukhi, was held on Saturday. Chaired by Professor Dr. Zia Uddin Ahmed, President of Kidney Foundation Sylhet and moderated by Trustee Fitrat Rashid, the event was attended by Sharmin S. Murshid, Advisor to the Ministry of Social Welfare of the Interim Government, Rasheda K. Chowdhury, former Advisor to the Caretaker Government, as special guests. Among others, the event was addressed by Channel S Chairman Ahmad-us-Samad Chowdhury JP, Major General Azizur Rahman Bir Uttam, Chairman of the National Kidney Foundation and Research Hospital Trust in Dhaka, Professor Dr. Harunur Rashid, Managing Director of BRAC Enterprises Tamara Hasan Abed, Executive Director of BRAC Asif Saleh, Chairperson of BRAC Bank PLC Mehriyar M Hasan, Chairman of Shaheed Professor Shamsuddin Ahmed Foundation and Education Trust Engineer Salahuddin Ahmed, Syed Zaki Hossain. Chairman of Kidney Foundation Sylhet Dr. Zia Uddin Ahmed and General Secretary Colonel Muhammad Abdus Salam Birpratik thanked the guests present at the event. It is worth mentioning that prominent businessman of Sylhet Lion Zubair Ahmed Chowdhury and his family members donated 120 acres of land free of cost and unconditionally to establish the international standard self-contained hospital. About 340 crore taka has been spent on the construction of this hospital from 2018 to its inauguration. This 150-bed hospital was built under the joint initiative of the Department of Social Welfare of the Government of Bangladesh and Kidney Foundation Sylhet.
Speaking as a special guest,
Advisor to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Sharmin S. Murshid said, “There are 76,000 institutions under the Department of Social Welfare. Kidney Foundation Sylhet is also included in it. The construction of this hospital under the joint initiative of the Department of Social Welfare and the Kidney Foundation is truly a remarkable work. I thank and express my gratitude to those who have connected with everyone for this work. By utilizing whatever capacity they have, this consolidation work will open a new horizon in the medical system of Sylhet.”
Speaking as a special guest, former caretaker government advisor Rashed K Chowdhury said, “I express my sincere thanks and gratitude to those associated with Kidney Foundation Hospital, Sylhet. To improve an institution, it is necessary to have a financial, programmatic, sustainable vision and a worthy successor. Those who were with this institution truly did these things. They did not just dream; rather, they worked to realize the dream.”
