Court Point in Sylhet city has been renamed as Martyr Journalist ATM Turab Chattar on Thursday. Leaders of journalist organization, political leaders and anti-discrimination student movement leaders pulled up a banner and officially named the Court Point as Turab Chatwar.
Meanwhile, a special prayer was offered for martyred journalist ATM Turab, a member of the executive committee of the Bangladesh Photojournalists Association (BPJA) Sylhet Divisional Committee, who was brutally killed by the police on Friday, July 19.
Daily Jalalabad chief photojournalist Humayun Kabir Liton presided over and General Secretary of Bangladesh Photojournalists Association (BPJA) Sylhet divisional committee Nurul Islam addressed the ceremony.
BNP Chairperson’s advisor and former Sylhet City Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury, City Jamaat Ameer Muhammad Fakhrul Islam, Sylhet Press Club President Ikramul Kabir, Senior Vice President Khaled Ahmad, General Secretary Mohammad Sirajul Islam, Sylhet District Press Club General Secretary Shah Didar Alam Chowdhury Noble, among others, attended the vent.
The leaders said that the killing of journalists by the police while performing their professional duties on the ground of Sylhet is a shameful chapter in history.
The police officers involved in Turab’s murder must be brought to justice. Exemplary punishment should be ensured. In this regard, everyone should be willing from their own position.
