Sylhet District and Metropolitan BNP exchanged Eid greetings and views with journalists in Sylhet. In the meeting, the leaders highlighted the party’s various activities, political positions and future plans.
At the same time, they talked about the crisis in the tea industry, the party’s commitment to restoring discipline and democracy, District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, Metropolitan BNP Acting President Rezaul Hasan Qays Lodi, District BNP General Secretary Advocate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury and Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Imdad Hossain Chowdhury.
BNP leaders exchanged views with journalists in a cordial atmosphere at the event at the Buffet Paradise Auditorium of Al-Hamra Shopping City in the city on Saturday at 12pm.
The speakers at the meeting said during the holy month of Ramadan, prayers and iftar mahfils were peacefully held at the initiative of BNP in every union and ward of Sylhet district and in the wards and neighbourhoods of the police stations of the metropolis.
Through this arrangement, the contact between party leaders and activists with the general public has deepened. The speakers said they were able to directly understand the expectations that the people have in the dream of democracy, justice and a new future.
In their speech, the BNP leaders also highlighted the plight of tea workers. They said the tea industry, one of the country’s foreign exchange earning sectors, is currently in an extreme crisis. Tea workers are living in inhuman conditions.
In this situation, the owners, government and labor organisations were called upon to take effective steps together. They also highlighted the initiative to distribute food items among tea workers during the month of Ramadan.
The meeting was also informed that Sylhet BNP stood by the families of those killed and injured in the mass movement last year. Eid gifts were distributed among the affected people on behalf of Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Regarding the law and order situation, the leaders said a peaceful environment was maintained in Sylhet metropolis and every area of the district on the occasion of Eid with the cooperation of law and order forces. For this, the police, RAB, traffic department, highway and railway police and other concerned were thanked.
Regarding party discipline, the leaders said BNP is an ideology-based party. No concessions will be made to maintain party discipline. If anyone engages in immoral activities using the name of BNP, strict organisational and legal action will be taken against them.
Addressing journalists, the leaders said journalists are the conscience of the nation. They requested them to present news on the basis of justice without imposing the personal activities of anyone on the entire party. The leaders also mentioned that the BNP always welcomes constructive criticism.
At the end of the meeting, the speakers wished the countrymen a happy Eid-ul-Fitr on behalf of the party and said BNP will continue to stand by the people in the future and will play a strong role in establishing democracy and voting rights.
