BNP Standing Committee Member Abdul Moyeen Khan expressed gratitude to the interim government for establishing a new Election Commission, emphasizing the critical responsibility it holds in steering the country from autocracy to democracy.

Speaking after paying homage to BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman at his grave in the capital, Moyeen Khan remarked, “We thank the interim government for forming an Election Commission.

The mandate given to them by the people is to transition from autocracy to democracy. This is their primary responsibility.”

He urged the government to implement necessary reforms expeditiously and ensure a free, fair, and impartial election without delay.

“We are prepared to cooperate fully with this government. But they must not delay unnecessarily. They must complete the necessary reforms and conduct a credible election without further delay,” he stated.

Moyeen Khan emphasized the importance of forming a government that truly represents the people, noting, “We hope that this government will promptly hold a fair election, through which a parliament consisting of true public representatives will be formed, and that parliament will establish a government of the people.”

Highlighting the BNP’s commitment to the nation, he added, “BNP does not engage in politics for power. We are committed to serving the people. If the people willingly vote for us, we assure you that we will form a government focused on their development and progress.”

The senior BNP leader also underlined the broader significance of a fair election in restoring fundamental rights.

He remarked, “This election is not just about the right to vote; it is about restoring the people’s rights to speak freely, live securely, and ensuring media freedom.

These rights are intrinsically linked to the upcoming free and impartial election.”

The formation of the new Election Commission has raised hopes for political stability, with stakeholders across the spectrum calling for transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
