Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden visited various projects under National Urban Poverty Reduction Program. On his four-day visit to Bangladesh, he visited the UNDP project at Kalurghat on Tuesday (March 19) afternoon. He visited as a goodwill ambassador of UNDP. The Princess visited the living standards of communities affected by climate change and spoke to successful local women. Under the National Urban Poverty Reduction Programme, various climate resilient infrastructures have been constructed in South Jelepara Ward of Kalurghat through the Climate Resilient Municipal Infrastructure Fund (CRMIF) funded by LGD, UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and UNDP and supported by Chittagong City Corporation.
The project includes 115.85 meter retaining wall, 115.85 meter filled road with CC road, 4.57 meter sluice gate, 150 plantations, 48.78 meter footpath and 6.10 meter staircase. The total cost of the project is 82 lakh 48 thousand 658 taka, of which Chittagong City Corporation grant is 7 lakh 50 thousand taka and UNDP funding is 74 lakh 98 thousand 658 taka. Projects include climate resilient dams, community latrines, pavements paved with pavement tiles made from plastic waste and houses made of low-cost climate resilient ferro-cement. Grants have been made through various projects to improve the quality of life of communities affected by climate change.
Grants have been made through various projects to improve the quality of life of communities affected by climate change. Out of these, 22 are beneficiaries for business, 14 for education, 11 for skill development training and 13 for nutrition grants.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Affairs Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, UNDP International Project Manager Yogesh Pradhanong were present on the occasion.
At afternoon the princess visited Asian University for Women in Princes Nagar. She witnessed various activities of the students supported by UNDP including ‘Innovative Training Course’ and exchanged views with them. In the university he inaugurated the ‘Crown Princess Victoria Room’ named after him, said a reliable sources.
