BRUR Correspondent:

At Rangpur’s Begum Rokeya University (BRUR), eight students from the Marketing Department were temporarily suspended by the university administration following a three-way clash related to a football match. However, despite their suspension, they are appearing for their final exams. They had also taken their mid-term exams earlier.

It is reported that on the night of October 13, at around 3:30 am, an emergency meeting of the university’s disciplinary committee decided to temporarily suspend the eight students. The suspended students are: Safayet Hossain Shuvo, Shahriar Apu, Sajib, Sourav, Nazmuz Sakib, Rohan Sarkar Rohan, Zihad (all from the 2023-24 session), and Ashraful Islam (2021-22 session) from the Marketing Department.

Sources say that the 2023-24 session students began taking their final exams from November 6, while Ashraful from the 2021-22 session started on November 9. They had previously completed their mid-term exams and continue to attend classes regularly.

It is noted that, although they were suspended, no official letters were sent to the department. As a result, the department did not take any action against them.

Commenting on the matter, Head of the Marketing Department, Professor Dr. Md. Zahid Hossain, said, “Before conducting the exams, I consulted with the administration. The administration informed me that since no official letters were issued and the investigation is not yet complete, the students should be allowed to take the exams. Later, if anyone is proven guilty, their exams can be canceled.”
