UNB, Dhaka :
President of Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury on Friday demanded suspension of the political cases filed against opposition leaders and activists for the sake of a neutral general election.
Speaking at a discussion, he also suggested placing the cent percent charge of the Home and Public
Administration Ministries under the control of the Election Commission six months before the election so that it can be held in a credible manner.
BDB arranged the discussion at its Kuril Biswa Road office, marking the Shaheed Dibash and the International Mother Language Day.
“It’s our request as well as demand to the government that you please suspend the cases imposed on the opposition parties immediately for the next two years for fair polls. You can revive the cases two years later if those have merits,” the BBD chief said.
B Chowdhury, also a former President, said students, youths and common people of the country had waged a movement on February 21 to make Bangla a state language as the first step of a movement to establish democracy.
The nation finally got an independent and sovereign Bangladesh through the Language Movement and the Liberation War, he observed. Mentioning that democracy is now neglected, the BDB chief said, “This ignored democracy must be reestablished.” “There’ll be immense contributions of the Language Movement to current movement for democracy. We’ll be inspired from there (Language Movement) and can show our true patriotism by holding an election with the participation of all political parties,” he said.
