A suspect in the custody of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-9) in Sylhet has committed suicide. He committed suicide by twisting the blanket given to him around his neck with the ventilation, said Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-9) Additional Superintendent of Police (Media Officer) KM Shahidul Islam Sohag.
The incident took place at around 8:30 am on Sunday (September 14).
The deceased has been identified as Tanvir Chowdhury. He is an accused in a murder case in Naogaon district. RAB-9 arrested him from Jaintapur in Sylhet on Saturday (September 13).
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-9) Additional Superintendent of Police (Media Officer) KM Shahidul Islam Sohag said, “Tanvir Chowdhury, an accused in a murder case in Naogaon district who was in the custody of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-9), was arrested from Jaintapur, Sylhet on Saturday (September 13). Later, on Sunday (September 14), at around 8:30 am, he committed suicide while in RAB custody. CCTV footage shows that he committed suicide by twisting the blanket given to him around his neck with the ventilation.
He further said that on Sunday, in the presence of the deceased’s relatives, police, doctors and local public representatives, the hanging body was taken down and sent to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The body of the deceased was handed over to his family after the autopsy on Monday (September 15) and a case of accidental death has been filed at Golapganj Police Station in this incident.
