Renowned folk artist Sultana Yesmin Layla was honored as the Best Folk Singer at the 25th Television Reporters Association of Bangladesh (TRAB) Awards 2024. The prestigious ceremony, held at a hotel in Bijoynagar, Dhaka, celebrated her outstanding contributions to the preservation and promotion of folk music.
The event, a highlight in Bangladesh’s cultural calendar, featured notable attendees including Syed Margub Morshed, former Secretary of Information; Bir Muktijoddha Mir Hasmat Ali, Supreme Court Judge; Dr. Jahangir Alam Rustom, an environmental scientist and poet; Kamrul Hasan Darpon, President of BACHSAS; and Shafiqur Rahman, Chairman of BBN News.
Although Sultana Yesmin Layla could not attend the ceremony, she conveyed her gratitude through a message, stating: “It’s a great honor to be recognized for my work in folk music. This award strengthens my love and commitment to keeping our rich cultural heritage alive through music.”
She further emphasized her passion for connecting with audiences and preserving cultural traditions, saying, “I will continue to work on projects that celebrate the beauty and diversity of folk music.”
The TRAB Awards, now in their 25th year, remain a cornerstone for honoring excellence in media and the arts, with Layla’s recognition serving as a shining moment for the folk music community.
