Civil society platform for good governance Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik (SUJAN) on Saturday urged political parties to involve in dialogue to resolve the current political disputes ahead of the next general polls.
The organisation made the call from its human chain programme at Shahbagh in the capital.
Speakers of the programme said the streets become hottest and conflicts have been occurring as date of the next general election is nearing. But it is necessary to shun the path of conflict for the interests of the nation.
They said the government and the political parties should participate in dialogue without spending time any more as several incidents have occurred and even people have been killed during the conflicts on the streets.
SUJAN Secretary Badiul Alam Majumdar said, “A level playing field should be created for an inclusive, fair and acceptable national election.”
He said it does not a matter whether the next polls will be conducted under a partisan or a neutral government. But the main issue- a conducive environment for holding a fair election- should be addressed.
Professor Rubayat Ferdous, Executive Member of SUJAN said, the main thing of democracy is to resolve all political disputes through discussions.
“As such, the government and the opposition parties of Bangladesh should initiate dialogue right now for resolving the current political crisis,” he said.
SUJAN officials including Jakir Hossain, Nasima Akhter Jolly and Nazim Uddin, among others, spoke at the event.
