Jamaat-e-Islami is staging a large rally today (Saturday) at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka to press for their seven-point demand.

Although the event is officially scheduled to begin at 2 PM, supporters began arriving as early as Friday evening. By Saturday morning, thousands of Jamaat leaders and activists were seen marching in processions toward the venue, quickly filling the grounds.

Processions were observed coming from various parts of the capital, including Mohakhali, Farmgate, Karwan Bazar, Banglamotor, Shahbagh, TSC, Doel Chattar, Kakrail, and Matsya Bhaban. Many participants carried the party’s electoral symbol—the scales—and wore white T-shirts bearing slogans such as “Let your first vote be for Jamaat” and “Vote for the scales.”

One group of activists who had traveled from outside Dhaka said, “The rally begins Saturday morning, but we came a day early to avoid traffic and save time.”

Jamaat officials stated that extensive preparations have been made to ensure the event proceeds peacefully. Over 6,000 volunteers have been assigned to maintain order, oversee entry control, provide emergency assistance, and support ground logistics.

The party also confirmed it has coordinated with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and other law enforcement bodies to ensure security at the rally.

Jamaat maintains that the rally is being held within legal boundaries and has reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful program.
