Subrata Bain placed on 7-day remand

A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted a seven-day remand for Subrata Bain alias Fateh Ali in connection with the murder of Jubo Dal leader Md Arif Sikder.
On Wednesday (July 9), Bain was produced before the court where the investigating officer, Inspector Mohammad Mazharul Islam, sought a 10-day remand to question him further.
After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defence, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Abdul Wahab approved a seven-day remand for Bain.
Arif Sikder, who was the former assistant sports secretary of the Jubo Dal’s Dhaka North unit (Ward 36), was shot on the night of April 19 in front of “The Jhil Cafe” in the Nayatola area of Hatirjheel.
He succumbed to his injuries two days later while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Following the incident, Arif’s sister, Rima Akter, filed a murder case with Hatirjheel Police Station naming Subrata Bain’s associate Mahfuzur Rahman Bipul and nine others as accused. The Detective Branch (Tejgaon Division) is currently investigating the case.
Bain was officially shown arrested in the murder case on June 23 while already in custody.
Earlier, on May 27, he and three others, including Molla Masud, were arrested by army personnel with illegal firearms in their possession. He was subsequently placed on an eight-day remand under the Arms Act.
The other accused in the murder case have been identified as Md Yasin (19), Md Asif Hossain (21), Md Anik (19), Md Miraj (19), Md Ashiq (19), Md Ifti (24), Zafar Imam Torafdar Montu (40), Ratan Sheikh (45), and Alif (19).
