Sylhet Bureau :
An influential group is illegally cutting soil from cropland by using trucks to continuously pass through the Dharampur Majhpara Brick Sale Road in Mogla Bazar, South Surma Upazila of Sylhet, causing damage to the road. Locals recently submitted a memorandum to South Surma Upazila Executive Officer Urmi Roy demanding protection of the road.
The memorandum states that the public, schools, colleges, madrasas, and mosque devotees travel through the Dharampur Majhpara Brick Sale Road. An influential group is illegally cutting soil from agricultural land and transporting it through this road in trucks, which is causing damage to the road and destroying agricultural land.
Due to the speeding movement of heavy trucks on the road, there is a possibility of children in the village getting into accidents. In addition, during the winter season, dust and sand fly everywhere and fall on the surrounding houses and people.
Due to this, the local people, including children, are affected by various diseases.
In the memorandum, the locals demanded that the South Surma Upazila administration take necessary steps to protect the only road in Dharpur-Majpara, protect agricultural land from damage, and stop the transportation of soil by truck on the road, considering the harm to the locals.
It is worth noting that the locals have put up a signboard on the Dharampur Majhpara road prohibiting the movement of heavy vehicles. However, an influential group is ignoring this and is constantly transporting soil in heavy trucks.
