A new media venture, STV Bayanno Limited, officially launched on Saturday through a discussion titled “Democracy, Media, and the Role of Civil Society.” The inaugural ceremony was held at the Abdus Salam Hall of the National Press Club, Dhaka.
The event was graced by Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, who joined virtually as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, Dr. Khan emphasized the importance of responsible media in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting civic engagement.
Among the special guests attending the event were Abdul Hai Tuhin, Organizational Secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU); Anwar Hossain Akash, Editor of Dainik Swadhin Sangbad; Nuruzzaman Hossain Farabi, Assistant Director of Uttara University; and Taizul Islam Sagar, Managing Director of STV Bayanno.
The session was presided over virtually by Professor Dr. Sukomal Barua of the University of Dhaka, while veteran journalist Shahidul Islam Khokon moderated the event.
Notable speakers included journalist and human rights activist Milon Mallik, Borhan Uddin Dalim, President of Matlab Uttar Press Club and Editor of Priyo Chandpur, and Md. Faruk Hossain, President of Matlab Uttar Upazila Press Club and representative of Daily Jugantor.
The welcome address was delivered by Nazrul Islam Sanchi, Special Correspondent of STV Bayanno, who outlined the channel’s vision for ethical journalism and grassroots representation.
The ceremony concluded with a symbolic cake-cutting, marking the official start of STV Bayanno’s journey as a new voice in the country’s media landscape.
STV Bayanno aims to promote transparency, uphold press freedom, and serve as a platform for public interest journalism in Bangladesh.
