‘Students to get modern labs in new campus’

Jagannath University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Sadeka Halim said that the students will get modern capacity and safe labs on the new campus.

“Students should be determined and involved in various co-curricular activities. Jagannath University is moving forward; our students will take this university forward,” she said at a seminar titled “Genome Editing” jointly organized by the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and the Faculty of Life and Earth Science on the university campus on Monday, reports media.

The vice chancellor said: “A scientist will be self-interested only when the results of his research are easily understandable to everyone. Our honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is encouraging scientists to research genome editing. This is because genome editing helps our farmers increase crop production.”

Chairman of the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Professor Dr Sumaiya Farah Khan chaired the event where the treasurer of the university Md Humayun Kabir Chowdhury and dean of the Life and Earth Science Faculty Prof Dr Mallik Akram Hossain were present as a special guest.

In addition, Professor Dr Md Tofazzal Islam of the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University was an invited speaker in the seminar.
During this time, teachers and students from different departments of the university and other researchers were present.
