Staff Reporter :

A group of protesting students demonstrated inside the premises of the Dhaka Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, demanding non-discriminatory HSC-equivalent examination results. The students claimed that they were attacked during the protests, resulting in some of them being injured.

The demonstration began on Sunday afternoon when the students took to the streets and gathered inside the Dhaka Board premises. The HSC and equivalent examination results were published on October 15, but the students argue that the results were unfair. They are calling for the results to be re-evaluated and “mapped” to eliminate the perceived discrimination.

Meanwhile Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar, chairman of Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, has announced his resignation in the face of protests led by students demanding revaluation of HSC results and its equivalent examinations.

He will submit his resignation from the post of chairman to the Ministry of Education tomorrow.
At around 12:30 pm on Sunday, a group of students under the banner of “HSC Batch 2024” marched from the Central Shaheed Minar to the Dhaka Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, arriving at the board’s gate by 1 pm. The students eventually entered the board premises, and according to their claims, were attacked during the protest, with some sustaining injuries. They are now demanding justice for the attack.

Board officials, on the other hand, reported that some students forcibly entered the building and vandalized property, including the board chairman’s office. In response, police and army personnel arrived on the scene and are currently working to resolve the situation and communicate with the students.

Regarding the issue, Dhaka Board Chairman Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar stated that the examination results had already been published in accordance with instructions from the Ministry of Education.

Rezaul Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chowkbazar Police Station, said that the students are protesting over allegations of discrimination in the results. They initially gathered in front of the board, but at one point entered the building. Board employees intervened to protect documents and other belongings, leading to a stampede in which some students were reportedly injured. The situation is now under control.
