A group of students and citizens blocked the road at Asad Gate in the capital, protesting against incidents of rape across the country and demanding security for all. Due to the protest, traffic on one side of the road has been halted, while vehicles are moving on the other side.

As a result, the area is experiencing traffic congestion.

On Sunday (February 23) at around 12:30 PM, students and citizens gathered to block the road.

Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Arifur Rahman told Banglanews, “The students and citizens have blocked the road at Asad Gate. Traffic is operating on one side of the road. Senior police officials are present at the scene.”

Earlier, at 10:30 AM, students of Eden Mohila College held a protest rally at Bakultala on their campus, condemning rape, violence against women, and demanding security for women and children.

Similar protest programs have been reported in various parts of the country.

The role of mass media in crime prevention is crucial. It influences every aspect of our lives and can play a significant role in mobilizing public awareness. The media should be cautious in planning and broadcasting its programs. Legal awareness campaigns, advertisements on existing laws, and investigative journalism can help expose the underlying causes of crime. By telecasting investigative reports and legal education programs, the media can contribute to crime prevention and ensure a more informed society.
