Students gave an ultimatum to Payra thermal power plant chief executive officer (CEO) AM Khorshedul Alam and manager Shah Abdul Maulato to resign within 72 hours alleging corruption and irregularities.
Both of them were appointed by the ousted Awami Government at Payra Thermal Power Plant.
The memorandum was announced in a press conference held at Kalapara upazila of the district on Thursday September 5, 2024 by Rabiul Islam Antar, coordinator of anti-discrimination student movement textile engineer.
In that press conference held at Tauhidur Rahman Auditorium at Kalapara Press Club, huge mnumber of students from the affected families were present. Earlier, a human bonding program and rally was held in front of the press club.
On behalf of the affected families, the programme was addressed by Shimul, Imran Hossain, Limon, Parvez and others.
They said that if those officials not resign within the stipulated time, they will announce a strict program.
The 11 points announced in the press conference included the CEO and manager of the plant appointed by the fascist Awami government should be removed for alleged corruption, all illegal recruitment through contractual and outsourcing should be cancelled, relatives of plant secretary, managing director and plant manager should be removed by cancellation of contractual appointments.
The family members affected by Payra thermal power and RNPL power plants should be given jobs on the basis of merit with special priority.
The agitated activists also demanded the money for acquisition of land should be handed over quicklyto the affected families and called for overall development of the area by paving small roads or paving bricks, culverts, planting trees, mosques, free computer training, car driving training, sewing machine training for girls etc.
They also called that the looted/embezzled money should be spent on the development of the area and those involved in looting should be swiftly brought to justice. Permanent ownership papers should be given to everyone in the Dream Address housing project of the plant in a timely manner.
In this regard, the chief executive officer of Payra thermal power plant AM Khorshedul Alam and plant manager Shah Abdul Maula tried to establish a connection several times on the cell phone used by them, but the connection was not found.
Mentionable in 2016, the previous Awami League government set up 1320 MW Payra thermal power plant in Dhankhali union of Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali.
Later another power plant called RNPL was established in the same union.
In this regard huge land were acquired from1420 families in Nishanbaria, Daser Howla, Garatkhan, Morichbunia and Madhupara villages.
