Students demand conducive environment for CACSU election

Carmichael College students have called for the swift conduct of the Carmichael College Central Students’ Union (CACSU) election, emphasising the need for necessary reforms, stakeholder consensus, and a conducive electoral environment.
Student leaders and general students made the demand at a dialogue titled “Carmichael College Dialogue: Student Union Election” held at the college’s Annadamohan Hall on Wednesday morning. Carmichael College Principal Professor MostafizurRahman was present at the event.
The dialogue was organized by Democracy International (DI) in association with the Carmichael College Debating Society. Speaking at the event, Arafat Ali Siddique, Deputy Director of Democracy International, said the dialogue was held with support from the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
Catherine Cecil, Chief of Party at DI, stressed the importance of an inclusive and cooperative environment for student union elections. She noted that electing student representatives through a democratic process ensures meaningful student participation in university governance.
Among others, Former General Secretary of the College Student Union and Senior Joint Convener of Rangpur City BNP Shahidul Islam Miju, General Secretary of the Teachers’ Council Professor Dilip Kumar Roy, College Chhatra Dal President Rabiul Islam, IslamiChhatraShibir President MehediHasan, general secretary of the Carmichael College Alumni Association Rakibus Sultan Manik, Senior Joint Convener of Students Against Discrimination of Rangpur District SajjadHossain, Joint Convener of JatiyaChhatraSamajKamol Roy, College students Al-Mahmud Asad, JannatulFerdousAnanya, JarinTasnima, and MiftaulJannatSinthi shared their views in the dialogue.
