Students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) have spent two nights on hunger strike. On the second day of the hunger strike, Wednesday morning, Education Advisor Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar came to exchange views with the students on hunger strike, but the students refused to do so again.

Meanwhile, two students fell ill during the two-night hunger strike and were sent home. When the mother of another student fell ill after hearing about her son’s hunger strike, her classmates also sent her home.

The residential halls of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology are being opened this Wednesday (April 23) afternoon. This decision was taken at the 102nd emergency meeting of the syndicate at noon. This information was given in a notification signed by Registrar Md. Anisur Rahman Bhuiyan on the instructions of the Vice Chancellor.

The notification said that as per the decision of the 101st (emergency) meeting of the syndicate held on April 14, all academic activities of the university will be resumed from May 4 and the residential halls will be opened on May 2. In view of the decision of the 102nd (emergency) meeting of the syndicate held on Wednesday (April 23), the residential halls of the university will be opened this afternoon instead of May 2.

Earlier, students started a protest and sit-in program on the campus on April 13 demanding the opening of the halls. But the authorities decided to open the halls on May 2.

After spending two nights under the open sky, the students broke the locks of six student halls on April 15 and entered. Last Tuesday night, the female students also broke the locks of the halls. Currently, students are staying in all the halls of KUET.

The Teachers’ Association will not accept the removal of the VC by applying pressure unless he is proven guilty. The teachers will stop the educational activities for an indefinite period! They have called for a decision to be taken after talking to all parties. In addition, the educational advisor talked to the students but did not talk to the teachers. Teachers expressed their disappointment.

The leaders of the Teachers’ Association made these remarks at a press conference at 1 pm in the conference room of the administrative building of KUET. The President of the Teachers’ Association, Professor Dr. Md. Sahidul Islam and General Secretary Professor Dr. Md. Faruk Hossain, along with some teachers, spoke at the time. The teachers said that the teachers will not participate in any kind of academic activities until the attacks on students and those who insulted teachers are appropriately punished.
