Staff Reporter :

A violent clash broke out between students of Dhaka College and Dhaka City College at the Science Lab intersection in the capital late Wednesday morning, triggering chaos and disrupting movement in the busy area.

The confrontation began around 11:40 AM, reportedly following an escalation of tensions that began earlier in the week. Eyewitnesses said both groups engaged in chasing and counter-chasing, followed by brick-throwing from opposite ends of the intersection.

Students from Dhaka City College took position under the Science Lab footbridge, while Dhaka College students gathered in front of the Government Teachers’ Training College, creating a standoff that quickly turned aggressive.

Local law enforcement swiftly responded, deploying additional police units to the scene to restore order. Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), was seen coordinating efforts to disperse the students and bring the situation under control.
Despite police intervention, tension remained high in the area throughout the afternoon, with commuters and passersby caught in the disruption.

A Dhaka City College student, speaking to reporters, blamed the flare-up on a series of retaliatory incidents.

“Yesterday (Monday), two of our students were dragged off a bus and beaten by Dhaka College students. In retaliation, we confronted two of their students—but didn’t harm them badly. We don’t want this to continue,” he said, calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of injuries or whether any arrests have been made, but efforts to mediate between the two groups are reportedly underway.

The administration of both colleges is expected to release statements soon to address the ongoing unrest and encourage calm among students.
