The government has implemented comprehensive security arrangements to ensure peaceful and festive celebrations of Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Monday.
“Christmas Day is the largest religious festival for the Christian community. Necessary security measures have already been put in place to ensure celebrations are conducted peacefully and with due religious fervor,” he said while briefing reporters after the 18th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order and preparations for the Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) polls.
Jahangir added that appropriate security arrangements have been deployed at all churches. Exploding crackers have been banned for both Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, and no programmes will be permitted that block roads.
He noted that posh areas such as Gulshan and Banani are under heightened security to prevent any untoward incidents. Law enforcement agencies have also increased regular patrols along key roads throughout the capital to ensure foolproof security.
In addition, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been instructed to manage traffic efficiently during the festive period.
