Tangail correspondentĀ (NN):
BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku on Wednesday urged the ruling quarters and vested interests to refrain from hatching conspiracies centering the upcoming national election, stating that the future of Bangladesh lies in democracy, not manipulation.
Speaking at a rally organized by the district unit of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal at the Shaheed Minar premises in Tangail to mark its founding anniversary, Tuku said, āEven Sheikh Hasina once feared the people. Similarly, those involved in the genocide of 1971 are now conspiring over the elections, fearing the public verdict.ā
He warned that any conspiracy against democracy would only deepen the divide between the state and the people. āThose who conspire against democracy ultimately become isolated from the masses. It is the people who will choose their government through the ballot,ā he said.
Tuku also accused the incumbent government of trampling peopleās voting rights, rigging elections, and resorting to enforced disappearances, murder, and suppression. āThe fascist forces have been defeated by the blood of our martyrs. Bangladesh will not accept fascism again,ā he added.
The event was presided over by Shamim Al Mamun, convener of the sadar upazila Swechchhasebak Dal. Among others who spoke were Advocate Farhad Iqbal, General Secretary of Tangail District BNP; Mahmudul Haque Sanu, former acting general secretary of the district BNP; and Tarequl Islam Jholok, convener of the district Swechchhasebak Dal. Earlier, a colourful procession paraded through the main roads of Tangail town.
